Description
The Linotype alloy consists of 4% tin, 12% antimony and 84% lead; each bar measures approximately 8-3/4" x 1" x 2" and weighs approximately 5 lbs (+/- .25). This very hard alloy was designed to completely fill the molds used in the printing process prior to the development of computerized typesetting in the late 20th century. It is a bit hard for silhouette shooting or hunting bullets, as it tends to shatter when hitting metal plates or heavy bones. It is very good for higher velocity rifle bullets when target shooting. Often used as a basis for blending special alloys that require a higher percentage of antimony. If you have a good local source of pure lead, blend it 1 to 1 with Linotype alloy to produce Hardball alloy. The Brinell Hardness of this Linotype alloy is about 22.

Great product and fast shipping.

Great
I’ve ordered from Rotometals a few times and the shipping has been reasonably quick. The alloys have also been very good. While I usually use Lyman #2 for most of my casting, the particular load/projectile combo I was going for called for a harder alloy. This stuff casts like a dream. Very nice.

Easy and convenient
I use this to make Keith SWC bullets for a 44 Magnum and had done great. Used with a Lee 4-20 pot it is simple to add a bar when getting low and continue.

Linotype Alloy
First time I've used the Linotype. I'm looking for a harder BHN for rifle bullets. The lead arrived quickly and well packed. It's casts good looking bullets. We'll see how they shoot this weekend.

linotype alloy
Very happy with the product and proficiency of rotometal. Also, I like the smoothness of online ordering. Rotometal shipped the goods fast, but unfortunately, Fedex almost lost the package. the delivery was delayed for six days
